About Football Queensland

Football Queensland (FQ) is recognised by both the State and Federal Governments and Football Australia (FA) as the governing body for association football (Soccer) in Queensland.

We are a member of the national governing body FA and, through this connection, are affiliated with Federation of International Football Associations (FIFA).

As the governing body, we are charged with all facets of football in Queensland across semi-professional, amateurs, women, youth, juniors, coaches and referees and are responsible for the administration, promotion and delivery of football and futsal in the state.

We are a not-for-profit organisation run by a Board of Directors (elected by football stakeholders made up from regional representatives) and receive funding through membership and club affiliation fees, government grants and corporate sponsorship.

About the Business Unit

This role, based in the Darling Downs region will work closely with the FQ Referee Department, and the Referee Support Officer to grow and develop the referees within the Darling Downs region, with particular emphasis on referee education and coaching.

About the Role

The role of Referee Coach and Development Officer (RCDO) will be responsible for the growth and development of referees within the region, the successful applicant will also contribute to the support and appointments of referees for all junior and senior matches scheduled within the region.  The successful applicant from time to time, may also be required to work with other parts of the state and/or FQ Referee Support Officers.

The successful candidate will also:

  • Oversee the work with region’s Referee Support Officer.
  • Provide support to referees throughout the region.
  • Manage and co-ordinate Referee Mentor / Match Day Coaches to achieve the desired development outcomes.
  • Plan and deliver FA Referee Courses and manage the completion of field testing.
  • Liaise and utilise Officiating Collective when required.
  • Administration of coaching, assessments, and referee qualification records.
  • Deliver FQ fitness training (weekly) and theory local/state coaching (monthly) programs.
  • Review and provide feedback to referees on assessments and reports.
  • Implement and oversee FQ Teamsheets, weekly data and action when required.
  • Maintain accurate referee panels and supply regions Support Officer and FQ Referee Department Support Officer monthly.
  • Undertake game day referee coaching/mentoring.
  • Promote referee education and training programs and help co-ordinate recruitment and retention initiatives.
  • Provide leadership, direction and advice to stakeholders.
  • Communicate both internally and externally with stakeholders
  • Ensure referees abide by the code of conduct and are held to account for their actions.
  • Ensure that FQ directives, coaching, initiatives, and the Australian Officiating Development Schedule (ADDS) is followed / adhered to; and
  • Any other tasks required by the FQ Referee Department.

About You

The successful candidate should possess the following skills and qualifications.

  • Must hold a valid Level 3 Referee Instructor and Assessor or equivalent or be prepared to undertake training to achieve successful outcome.
  • Understanding of football expectations.
  • Maturity and experience dealing with stakeholders of the game
  • Demonstrated team management and leadership skills
  • Experience in the coaching of referees
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritise work and manage a number of tasks simultaneously both independently and in a team-orientated collaborative environment.
  • Demonstrated administrative and organisational skills, including oral and written communication skills and personal presentation.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Power Point) and social media platforms.
  • Ability to work unique hours inclusive of weekends and evening work as required.
  • Ability to undertake domestic travel in delivery of essential job-related activities.
  • Hold a valid Working with Children Check
  • Hold a valid driver’s licence with own reliable vehicle
  • Valid Level 3 Futsal Referee or be prepared to undertake training to achieve successful outcomes.
