

Jason Wright, CSQ’s Industry Engagement Manager, encourages small to medium-sized construction businesses to take advantage of the opportunities available through the CSQ Small Business Program. This program covers topics such as estimates, tenders, quoting, and contracts; marketing and business development; financial and budgeting skills; digital skills; negotiation and conflict resolution; compliance with legislation, regulations, standards, and codes; and growing indigenous business capability.
As of March 2023, there were approximately 4,480 operating construction industry businesses in the Darling Downs/Toowoomba region, employing a total of 9,080 workers. Of these, 99% were small or medium-sized businesses, meaning they had less than 20 employees.
In the 12 months to Q3 2022, Construction Skills Queensland (CSQ) reported 3,350 enrolments for individuals both inside and outside of the industry seeking to gain important skills to contribute to the construction sector in the near future. In addition to short courses, CSQ offers building and civil construction qualifications ranging from Certificate III and IV to diplomas and advanced diplomas, with subsidies available depending on eligibility criteria.
